Course Description:
This course discusses the science of noninvasive heart monitoring. Normal cardiac anatomy and conduction, various EKG/ECG waveforms, and the process of identifying a rhythm are discussed.
Outcomes:
≥ 92% of participants will know the basics of interpreting rhythms on an electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG).
Objectives:
After this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe normal cardiac anatomy and normal electrical conduction through the heart.
- Identify and relate electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG) waveforms to the cardiac cycle.
- Characterize standard lead placements and the purpose of each lead position.
- Formulate a systematic process when approaching the interpretation of the EKG/ECG.
- Differentiate normal and abnormal components on an EKG/ECG.
