Course Description:

This course aims to provide nurses with the knowledge base necessary to differentiate MIS-C from other inflammatory conditions and ensure timely identification and management of the illness.

Outcomes:

≥ 92% of participants will know how to identify MIS-C.

Objectives:

After completing this continuing education course, the participant will be able to:

1. Explain the relationship between the emergence of MIS-C and SARS-CoV-2 incidence.
2. Identify the risk factors for the development of MIS-C.
3. Categorize the symptoms of MIS-C by body system.
4. Compare and contrast MIS-C symptoms from those of the closely related Kawasaki Disease.
5. Define diagnostic criteria for MIS-C.
6. Determine the mechanism of action of various treatment modalities for MIS-C.
7. Formulate potential nursing interventions for care of a child with acute MIS-C.
