Course Description:
This course offers a comprehensive review of suicide as well as elucidates its complex nature and offers best practices in assessment, management, and prevention. This course meets the Washington state suicide prevention training requirement for health professionals
Outcomes
≥ 92% of participants will know how to screen, assess, and refer patients with suicidal thoughts, plans, and behaviors.
Objectives
After completing this continuing education course, the participant will be able to meet the following objectives:
- Relate terms that describe suicidal thinking and behavior.
- Define both suicide risk factors and protective factors.
- Differentiate suicide risk screening and assessments.
- Outline when and how to screen children and adults for suicide risk.
- Analyze the components of a comprehensive suicide assessment.
- Determine how to appropriately use the information gathered from suicide risk screening and assessments.
- Choose the appropriate referral for those at risk for suicide.
- Examine the importance of continuity of care when making referrals.
- Explain best practices for connecting a patient to a referral.
