Course Description:
This course discusses homeostasis, including intracellular and extracellular fluid and fluid balances. Dehydration, including the types of dehydration and IV fluid replacement, is summarized. Electrolytes are also discussed, as they are an essential aspect of homeostasis. Electrolyte imbalances are outlined, including their causes, symptoms, and treatments.
Outcomes:
≥ 92% of participants will know what symptoms electrolyte imbalances produce.
Objectives:
After completing this continuing education course, the participant will be able to meet the following objectives:
- Elaborate on the importance of homeostasis.
- Review water intake and excretion.
- Outline the types of dehydration.
- Identify the function of electrolytes.
- Summarize symptoms of electrolyte imbalances.
- Analyze the use of isotonic, hypotonic, and hypertonic fluids.
