Course Description:
This course discusses peripherally inserted central catheter lines, the contraindications, and advantages and disadvantages. This course will also review the pre- and post-procedural nursing interventions, routine care, and management of potential complications.
Outcomes:
≥ 92% of participants will increase their knowledge and confidence in peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line care and management.
Objectives:
After completing this continuing education course, the participant will be able to:
- Identify three reasons for peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line insertion.
- Outline the differences between a PICC and a midline catheter.
- Describe at least one advantage and disadvantage of a PICC line.
- Identify two potential complications that can arise with PICC line insertion.
- Explain the routine care strategies related to PICC line care.
- Implement correct nursing interventions when potential complications occur with a PICC.
