Course Description:
This course discusses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on pediatric mental health, the components to assess for on the Mental Status Examination (MSE), Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how they impact growth and development, risk factors of pediatric mental health disorders, screening tools that can be used for common pediatric mental health issues, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, the mental health concerns for LGBTQIA+ children and adolescents, suicide, bullying, and prevention methods for mental health disorders.
Outcomes:
≥ 92% of participants will know how to identify the major mental health conditions and needs of pediatric patients.
Objectives:
After completing this continuing education course, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the components of a Mental Status Examination (MSE).
- Explain Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how they impact children/adolescents.
- List the risk factors of pediatric mental health disorders.
- Describe the purpose of screening tools for pediatric mental health.
- Identify the assessment, diagnosis, management, and treatment of anxiety disorders.
- Identify the assessment, diagnosis, management, and treatment of depressive disorders.
- Determine the methods of prevention for pediatric mental health conditions.
