Course Description: 

This course discusses the role of the placenta, the risk factors associated with abnormal placental development, the specific placental abnormalities and complications that can occur, what these complications might mean for a woman and her fetus, and the nursing care for a woman with placental complications. 

Outcomes: 

≥ 92% of participants will know how to care for patients with placental complications. 

Objectives:

After completing this continuing education course, the participant will be able to: 

1. Define the role of the placenta.
2. List the risk factors for an abnormal placenta.
3. Describe the potential placental complications that can occur.
4. Identify the risks to the mother and fetus that can occur as a result of placental complications.
5. Plan the nursing care for women with placental complications.
