Course Description:

This course discusses the healthcare professional’s role in understanding and implementing patient rights and responsibilities in healthcare. It also discusses additional pediatric rights, family responsibilities, important components of the Affordable Care Act, and surprise medical billing protection.

Outcomes:

≥ 92% of participants will know about patients’ rights and responsibilities in healthcare, and how to implement them into clinical practice.

Objectives:

After completing this continuing education course, the participant will be able to:

1. Outline topics of patient rights covered under the Consumer Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.
2. Characterize the significance of using plain language when communicating with patients.
3. Outline at least one important aspect of advance directives.
4. Identify at least one method to safeguard Electronic Health Records Systems (EHR).
5. Describe the important components of the Surprise Medical Bills Protection Act.
