Course Description:
This course discusses patient safety concerns among community-dwelling older adults, individuals in hospitals, and older adults living in nursing homes. It details risk factors for falls across these settings, reviews mobility assistive devices, assistive devices used for individuals with low vision and hearing loss, and digital/mobile technology used in fall prevention.
Outcomes:
≥ 92% of participants will understand how falls impact patient safety across various settings and the safe use of assistive devices.
Objectives:
By the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Compare fall risk factors among patients in community-based settings, hospitals, and nursing homes.
- Identify common fall risk assessments
- Identify recommendations to ensure safe use of assistive devices.
- Outline how to minimize risk factors associated with wheelchair use.
- Relate common assistive devices for patients with hearing impairment and low vision.
- Examine how technology is being used to address fall prevention.
