Course Description:
This course discusses when restraints may be appropriate to use, 3 common medical conditions associated with behavioral changes that may warrant restraints, de-escalation techniques, restraint protocols, types of restraints, and restraint use requirements per the Joint Commission.
Outcomes:
≥ 92% of participants will know about the use of restraints in patient care within the CNAs’ and HHAs' scope of practice.
Objectives:
After completing this continuing education course, the participant will be able to:
- Recognize factors that contribute to restraint use.
- Understand the difference between the three common medical conditions associated with behavioral changes.
- Recall de-escalation techniques that may be utilized to avoid the need for restraints.
- Recall the CNAs and HHAs' scope of practice regarding restraint protocols.
- List the various types of restraints.
- Recognize which restraint is most appropriate to use during different situations.
- Recall the various legal requirements regarding restraint use.
