Course Description:
This course discusses the history of the GLP-1 RAs and incretin effect. This course will also discuss the FDA-approved uses of GLP-1 RAs, as well as the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, adverse events, and contraindications of this pharmacological class. Nursing care of the patient using GLP-1 RAs will also be discussed, including the use of compounded and counterfeit GLP-1 RA agents.

≥ 92% of participants will know about the pharmacological class of GLP-1 RAs.
Objectives:
After completing this continuing education course, the learner will be able to:
- Identify two GLP1 RA agents used for adults and children with type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity.
- Summarize three FDA-approved indications for GLP-1 RA therapy.
- Describe the mechanism of action of GLP-1 RA in regulating glucose and appetite.
- Analyze common reasons patients discontinue GLP-1 RA therapy.
- Develop a patient education plan that includes safe administration, side effect management, and lifestyle change strategies for successful initiation.
