Course Description:
This course provides nurses with comprehensive knowledge on assessing, managing, and caring for patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Topics include pathophysiology, monitoring intracranial pressure, pharmacological and surgical interventions, rehabilitation strategies, and patient/family education. Emphasis is on evidence-based practices to optimize outcomes in TBI care.
Outcomes:
≥ 92% of participants will know risk factors and common causes of traumatic brain injury and identify clinical characteristics, complications, and treatment options associated with TBI.
Objectives:
After completing this course, the learner will be able to:
- List three common causes of traumatic brain injury (TBI).
- Identify three risk factors for TBI.
- Outline the clinical characteristics of a TBI.
- Relate three medical complications associated with TBI.
- Identify two diagnostic tests for TBI patients.
- Summarize treatment options in the care of TBI patients.
