Course Description:
This course discusses adverse reactions to contrast agents and how to appropriately address them. The course also addresses the history of contrast agents, diagnostic studies that require them, myths surrounding them, risk factors for adverse reactions, and ways to mitigate these risks.
Outcomes
≥ 92% of participants will know how to recognize adverse reactions to contrast agents.
Objectives
After completing this continuing education course, the participant will be able to:
- Associate diagnostic studies with respective contrast agents.
- Identify strategies for preventing adverse reactions and complications from contrast use.
- Recognize factors that place a patient at greater risk of experiencing a contrast adverse reaction or complication.
- List examples of allergic and physiological reactions to contrast agents.
- Characterize acute kidney injury.
- Summarize the length of time contrast reactions can occur after administration.
- Analyze the pharmacodynamics of contrast agents.
