Course Description:  

This course discusses the unfortunate magnitude of the public health concern of sexual violence and assault. It is important to highlight background information, pertinent statistics, and generalized terms that some healthcare providers may not be familiar with. Other components of the course emphasize forensic nursing, sexual assault nurse examiners, and important key factors specific to a forensic examination. 

Outcomes:  

≥ 92% of participants will know the importance of awareness of sexual assault, how to become certified as a nurse examiner, and better understand state-mandated requirements to care for sexual assault survivors. 

Objectives:  

After completing this continuing education course, the participant will be able to:  

1. Define terms associated with sexual assault and violence. 

2. Identify the importance of forensic nurses and examinations. 

3. Recognize the longstanding effects that can occur after a sexual assault or trauma. 

4. Recall important critical aspects of a forensic examination. 

5. Identify state-mandated requirements for hospitals' response to sexual assault survivors.

This continuing education course empowers nurses with the knowledge and skills necessary to address and prevent sexual harassment in the California workplace. This comprehensive course equips nurses with practical insights, examples, and tools to foster a respectful and inclusive workplace, promoting a culture where sexual harassment is not tolerated.

≥ 92% of participants will know how to report sexual harassment both inside and outside the organization.

Objectives: 

After completing this continuing education course, the participant will be able to meet the following objectives:

1. Identify behaviors that might be considered sexual harassment in the California workplace.

2. Classify Sexual Harassment based upon type.

3. Outline supervisory/employer responsibilities when they receive a complaint.

4. Describe individuals who can be a harasser.

5. Examine victims’ regulations and resources to prevent and deal with sexual harassment.

6. Outline the California SB-1343 training requirements state for companies with at least five employees.

7. Compare the 5 D’s of Bystander Training.

8. Describe the elements of a fair investigation.
