  • Nurse practitioners that provide primary care to a patient population of which over 25% are 65 years of age or older must complete at least 6 of the 30 continuing education hours required to renew their registered nurse license, in a course in the field of gerontology, the special care needs of patients with dementia, or the care of older patients.

Athletic Trainer (AT/AL)

Special Requirements

  • Athletic trainers are not currently required to be licensed in the state of California.
  • As of 9/29/2024, AB 796 was enacted, which is a title protection bill, requiring anyone using the title of Athletic Trainer, Certified Athletic Trainer, Licensed Athletic Trainer, Registered Athletic Trainer, AT, ATC, LAT, CAT to both be:
    • A graduate from a CAATE Accredited Athletic Program or eligibility for BOC certification AND
    • Is certified by the BOC
  • BOC requires fifty (50) contact hours of continuing education every reporting period and Emergency Cardiac Care (ECC) certification.

CCI Credentialed Specialists

Description

A credential is active for 9-12 months after passing a CCI exam. For the first renewal, CCI credential holders must submit the renewal fee and a signature of compliance with the Code of Ethics.  
  • There are no Continuing Education Unit (CEU) requirements for the first renewal. 
Following the first renewal, maintenance of an “active status” for CCI credential holders requires the completion of the following three steps every three years, on the anniversary of the first renewal date: 
  1. The submission of renewal fees.
  2. Signature of compliance with the CCI Code of Ethics.
  3. The completion of Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
    • Certificate-Level (CCT and CRAT): sixteen (16) CEUs.
    • Advanced-Level (ACS): thirty-six (36) CEUs.
    • Registry-Level (RCES, RCIS, RCS, RCCS, RPhS, and RVS): thirty-six (36) CEUs.
Advanced and registry-level credential holders must complete thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs. The remaining 6 or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.

Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.

Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS):

Home Health Aid (HHA)

  • A minimum of 10 hours must be directly related to RCP Leadership.
  • The remaining five CE hours may be earned through courses that meet the criteria above or courses that are indirectly related to the clinical practice of respiratory care, including attendance at meetings provided by the Respiratory Care Board, California Society for Respiratory Care (CSRC), or American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) as designated by and at each provider’s discretion.
  • Laws and Professional Ethics Course: Required every other renewal cycle and counts toward "Leadership" requirement.
A minimum of 15 of the total 30 required CE hours must be earned from live courses or meetings which include in-person AND online platforms where licensees can directly interact with the instructor in real time during the instructional period.
