Athletic Trainers who are BOC Certified:
  • Report and be able to furnish documentation of having completed a BOC-approved Emergency Cardiac Care Course during the current renewal year of December 1 through November 30. Detailed guidelines are provided.
  • Report and be able to furnish proof of current BOC certification in the form of a copy of the current BOC Certification Card or printout of BOC on-line verification. BOC certification shall be considered acceptable documentation that BOC-certified licensees are in compliance with the BOC’s continuing education requirements for ongoing credentialing. 
Athletic Trainers who are NOT BOC Certified due to Statutory Exemption
  • The licensed athletic trainers who were issued a license pursuant to Code of Ala 1975, Section 34-40-7, exempting them from BOC certification are required to report twenty-six (26) contact hours of continuing education annually, with seven (7) of those hours being in an approved emergency cardiac care course.   Detailed continuing education guidelines and emergency cardiac care guidelines are provided. Documentation must also be submitted on the forms furnished by the Board showing proof of completion of all twenty-six (26) hours.

CCI Credentialed Specialists

Course References

Description

A credential is active for 9-12 months after passing a CCI exam. For the first renewal, CCI credential holders must submit the renewal fee and a signature of compliance with the Code of Ethics.  
  • There are no Continuing Education Unit (CEU) requirements for the first renewal. 
Following the first renewal, maintenance of an “active status” for CCI credential holders requires the completion of the following three steps every three years, on the anniversary of the first renewal date: 
  1. The submission of renewal fees.
  2. Signature of compliance with the CCI Code of Ethics.
  3. The completion of Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
    • Certificate-Level (CCT and CRAT): sixteen (16) CEUs.
    • Advanced-Level (ACS): thirty-six (36) CEUs.
    • Registry-Level (RCES, RCIS, RCS, RCCS, RPhS, and RVS): thirty-six (36) CEUs.
Advanced and registry-level credential holders must complete thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs. The remaining 6 or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.

Special Requirements

  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.

  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.
  • Thirty (30) cardiovascular-related CEUs.
  • The remaining six (6) or fewer CEUs can be on any topic.
Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS):
  • Thirty-six (36) contact hours of continuing education every three years for licensure renewal.

Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS):

Certified Medication Assistant (CMA)

  • Volunteer work does not count. Private sitting, assisted living facilities, and doctor's office work does not count.
  • Skilled nursing facilities are required to provide twelve (12) hours of mandatory continuing education to CNAs (12 per year according to the date of hire for the CNA).

Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistance shall earn a minimum of ten (10) contact hours of continuing education unless the license was obtained by exam within the past calendar year.
  • Licensees who were licensed by endorsement/score transfer, must submit an additional eight (8) hours of continuing education and 2 hours of Alabama Jurisprudence continuing education (10 hours total).
  • Continuing education submitted must be within the current two-year compliance period.
**Pre-approval for courses offered is not required. The Alabama Board of Physical Therapy will honor any coursework relevant to the practice of physical therapy.

Special Requirements

  • Effective 10/07/2024, all applicants for licensure (new graduates and endorsements) must pass an Alabama Physical Therapy jurisprudence examination (AL JAM) required by Ala. Code §34-24-212 (1975). The AL JAM is provided by the FSBPT.
    • Applicants are required to answer 80% of the questions correctly to pass the AL JAM.
    • The FSBPT Fee for the AL JAM is $48.00
  • Thereafter, two (2) hours of jurisprudence continuing education covering Alabama’s Practice Act and the Administrative Code will be required in years that end in “0” or “5” (2025, 2030, 2035, etc.)
